Comparison
HostedScan vs ScanBastion: website vulnerability scanning for agencies
HostedScan and ScanBastion both run well-known open-source scanners (OWASP ZAP, Nuclei, TLS checks) from the cloud and turn the results into reports. They are built for different buyers. HostedScan is a broad vulnerability-management platform that also covers networks and ports; ScanBastion is a website-only scanner for agencies and consultants who assess client sites and hand over a report. This page sets out the differences so you can pick the right one.

When HostedScan is the better choice
- You need more than websites. Port scanning, network vulnerability scanning with OpenVAS or Nessus, and internal scanning are outside ScanBastion's scope and will stay that way in the first release.
- You need scheduled or authenticated scans today. HostedScan offers both; ScanBastion does not yet.
- You need an API, webhooks or integrations with tools such as Vanta or Slack.
- You need a product that is available now. ScanBastion is pre-launch.
When ScanBastion fits better
- Your clients are websites. If what you assess is client sites rather than infrastructure, you do not pay for network scanners you will not use. Solo covers five sites for $19 a month, Agency fifteen for $59: less than HostedScan's entry plan for five.
- The report is the deliverable. ScanBastion's report is written for the client: limitations on page 1, a recommended order of work, evidence and a specific fix per finding, and a verification log that shows your judgement as yours. Read the full sample.
- Authorisation needs to be beyond doubt. Every target is verified by DNS TXT record before anything runs, which is what you want when you scan on a client's behalf. See the Responsible Scanning Policy.
- Findings must not be overstated. Each finding carries severity, confidence and verification as separate fields, so "1 High" on a cover page is never mistaken for a confirmed vulnerability. See how to read a scanner finding.
Price for an agency, worked through
| Client sites | HostedScan | ScanBastion |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $39/month (Basic, 5 targets) | Free (Starter, Quick profile only) |
| 5 | $39/month (Basic) | $19/month (Solo) |
| 15 | Basic plus additional targets; per-target price not listed publicly | $59/month (Agency) |
| 50 | Quote or Flex plan (from $3,500/year) | $149/month (Studio) |
ScanBastion's prices are confirmed to the early-access list before launch. The comparison is not like for like: HostedScan's price includes network scanning and unlimited scans. If you would use those, the difference narrows.
Frequently asked
What is the difference between HostedScan and ScanBastion?
HostedScan is a broad vulnerability-management platform covering websites, networks and ports, with scheduled and authenticated scans on higher tiers. ScanBastion is a website-only scanner for agencies and consultants: every target is verified by DNS TXT, scans are passive or non-intrusive, and each scan produces a client-ready report.
Is ScanBastion cheaper than HostedScan?
For websites only, yes: five sites cost $19 a month on ScanBastion Solo against $39 on HostedScan Basic, and fifteen cost $59 on ScanBastion Agency. HostedScan's price includes network scanning and unlimited scans, which ScanBastion does not offer.
Do both use OWASP ZAP and Nuclei?
Yes. HostedScan lists OWASP ZAP and Nuclei among its scanners. ScanBastion runs ZAP in passive mode only and Nuclei with a curated, non-intrusive template set, so a scan is safe to point at a production client site. See passive OWASP ZAP and curated Nuclei.
Can I try ScanBastion now?
The free headers and TLS checker runs today against any site. The full scan opens to early-access members first.
